The year 1997 will be remembered as a tumultuous one for Atlanta’s BBDO South.
Longtime client Delta Air Lines departed last spring, resulting in the layoff of 25 staffers. Newly appointed president and chief executive officer Larry Tolpin moved to greener pastures last fall and has yet to be replaced. The shop pursued sizeable accounts–including Celebrity Cruises and the National Thoroughbred Racing Association–only to walk away empty-handed.
So one cannot help but think BBDO South celebrated louder and longer than usual when late last month it won the $5-10 million ad account of AGL Invest-ments, sister company to Atlanta Gas Light Co.
