NEW YORK – Guinness Import Co. will withdraw Guinness Gold by the end of the year, spelling the demise of one of the beverage industry’s more strained line extensions of recent years. The decision, disclosed in an interview by GIC president and chief executive Bill Olson, will eliminate what he described as a poorly thought out line extension that undercut the vast equity of the Guinness name as symbolizing a rich, black beer.
