Ground Zero Hires Media Vet

LOS ANGELES--Ground Zero has hired veteran media executive Tom Somerset following an extensive search. Somerset takes on the role of media director, replacing Hal Carlson, who left the Marina del Rey, Calif., shop in April for a similar post at Los Angeles ad agency Lunch.

"Tom was a really good fit with his mix of experience and operating style," said agency chairman Jim Smith, adding that the shop was looking for someone to apply creative thinking to media.

Somerset, who has placed media for such clients as Mazda Motors and Oracle, was most recently media director at Think New Ideas (now 120 Advertising) in Los Angeles. He has held similar posts at FCB in Irvine and Rubin Postaer and Associates in Santa Monica.

At Ground Zero, Somerset heads a nine-person department and reports to Smith.
