LOS ANGELES - The Motion Picture Association of America has rejected a TV spot and print ad for Gramercy Pictures film Dazed and Confused, because a critic's review quote used in the ad, 'Deliciously accurate in its portrayal of the generation that fell between LSD and R.E.M.,' violated the MPAA's guidelines restricting references to drugs. It also rejected the ad copyline, 'Finally! A movie for everyone who did inhale.' Gramercy president Russell Schwartz issued an industrywide letter late last week protesting the MPAA's ban in regard to the review quote from US magazine, calling it 'unfair censorship' of a quote from a 'legitimate media outlet.' DDB Needham/L.A. handles Gramercy's media buying.
