10,000 - Estimated number of people who will attend the Miss Nude World competition in Des Moines, Iowa, on Oct. 20-25—a figure that has Greg Edwards, president of the Greater Des Moines Convention and Visitors Bureau, somewhat conflicted. Edwards says it's not the kind of event his tourism organization would endorse, but adds, "I guess anything that has a potential to bring outside visitors to town is somewhat positive." Mike Kent, owner of the Lumber Yard, the strip club north of town that will host the event, is not conflicted. "It's like Nascar," he says. "It's like the Daytona 500."

530,000 - Number of spam e-mails sent to Fox Entertainment by an irate Nascar fan after Fox's Boston affiliate replaced racing coverage with a Red Sox game. The e-mails paralyzed Fox's Web site, causing $36,000 in damages, according to court papers. The fan, Michael Melo, faces up to a year in prison after pleading guilty to a federal misdemeanor charge of damaging a protected computer. "He's more interested in Nascar than baseball," his lawyer says. "In Red Sox nation, maybe that's not the majority view, but it's his view."
