BOSTON As daily newspapers continue to struggle in a cluttered media landscape, The Boston Globe said it has hired former Gillette marketing executive Patricia Knight as vice president of consumer sales and product development, a new position.

Knight, 45, had most recently been global marketing director of Gillette’s Oral-B division, where she oversaw the launch of several new products into emerging and developing markets.

At the Globe, she is tasked with building single-copy circulation sales, as well as developing new lines of business that extend the brand into markets such as content licensing and reprints, photo sales, book and DVD development, and product merchandising.
