NEW YORK–Glaxo Wellcome has narrowed the contenders’ list for its consolidated $100 million domestic media planning and buying account.

Sources believe the contenders selected from the original 20 agencies and media buying services are: J. Walter Thompson; Grey Advertising; TeleVest, a unit of D’Arcy Masius Benton & Bowles; and The Media Edge, a unit of Young & Rubicam, all in New York; and Western International Media in Los Angeles.

Glaxo’s media business is currently split among eight to 10 shops nationwide, including Rockett, Burkhead, Lewis & Winslow (RBL&W) in Raleigh, N.C.
