Garfinkel’s Punk Influence

How did the Ramones’ “Blitzkrieg Bop” make it into Diet Pepsi’s ad “After Hours,” which ran during the Oscars? At the suggestion of chairman and CCO Lee Garfinkel, according to producer Anthony Curti. The spot shows Diet Pepsi cans jumping around crazily in a freezer after a supermarket’s closing time. “We had some other music we explored [including the Propeller Heads’ song “Velvet Pants” and a disco song from a Romanian group], but this thing really hit the mark for us,” says Curti.
