A man shows off his fast garage-door opener to two awestruck buddies. He wows them even more after playing a message his wife left him on the unit in a new television spot for The Genie Company that breaks nationally Oct. 7.
Marshall and Henry in Dallas cast three well-known comedic act-ors as the characters: Brian Posehn of Just Shoot Me, John Ennis of Malcolm in the Middle and Patton Oswalt of King of Queens. The spot's director, Tom Jones of Kaboom Productions in San Francisco, had connections with the three real-life friends, the shop said.
"We tried to take a product demo beyond what's normal—which is pretty bland," said agency copywriter Marshall Twinam.
The ad showcases the Alliance, Ohio-based client's new "G-mail" gar-age system, which lets users record a message on the door-opener unit of the Genie Excelerator. The 30-second spot closes with one of the men begging his wife to let him buy the product.
The commercial will run on NBC and in spot cable markets. It was produced by Kathy Cogar of Beaucoup Chapeaux of Dallas.
Production costs were $275,000, the shop said.
