LOS ANGELES Southern California advertising pioneer Donald J. Freeman died on Monday, June 21 at his Temescal, Calif., beachside home, said his wife, Ann. Freeman, 77, had been battling leukemia for the past two years.

Originally from New York, Freeman was a graduate of the University of Illinois and served in the U.S. Army before he and Ann moved to Los Angeles in 1957.

After working for several Los Angeles-based agencies, Freeman founded his own advertising firm, Freeman & Company, in 1969.
