Forge Opens Its Doors

BOSTON Agency veterans Michael Benes and Harry Chapin said they have launched Forge, a six-person shop in Wellesley, Mass., that already works for clients such as Lesley and Northeastern Universities, Scientific Atlanta and Standex International.

Benes is creative director of the shop; Chapin serves as president.

The former is best known as founder of recently defunct Benes Brand Imaging in Lexington, Mass., where he worked for clients such as Bose, Fidelity and New Balance. That shop opened in 1985 and at its zenith about two years ago claimed nearly $35 million in billings. Benes has also worked as worldwide design director at Polaroid and has held posts at Interpublic Group's Hill, Holliday, Connors, Cosmopulos in Boston.

Chapin's resume include stints at Hill, Holliday and Cipriani Kremer, a design affiliate of Havas' Arnold, as well as ad shop Pamet River Partners.

The start-up's name "represents the hard work and skilled craftsmanship that goes into building lasting brands," Benes said.
