Florida attorneys won a skirmish against the Florida Bar Association last week, as the state’s Supreme Court ruled a ban against television and radio ads for lawyers violates First Amendment rights.
A study by the Florida Bar’s Special Advertising Task Force two years ago concluded that all electronic advertising by attorneys in the state should be banned. The group also recommended restricting any electronic ads to only basic information about a law firm.
In its decision, the court noted that a similar restriction on print media has already been rejected by the U.S.
