BOSTON Omnicom's FitzGerald Communications has named Steven Casey to the newly created position of president.

Casey, 43, is rejoining the public relations agency at which he was a vp from 1997 to 1999.

"I have long wanted to bolster the leadership of the agency, and Steve's business experience, management ability and coaching style make him the perfect match for this role," said Maura FitzGerald, agency founder and CEO.

Casey is now poised as FitzGerald's successor. "[The addition of Steve] increases our senior-level brain trust," said FitzGerald. "He's got strong corporate experience and he knows our corporate culture well."

Casey's duties at the Boston-based shop include leading the day-to-day operations of the agency and working closely with the management team. The agency has offices in New York, Redwood Shores, Calif., and Washington, D.C., and employs 185 people nationwide.

After Casey left the agency in 1999, he served as vp of corporate marketing at Iona Technologies at its U.S. headquarters in Waltham, Mass.

Prior to Iona, Casey was director of corporate communications at RSA Security, where he oversaw all communications activities including PR, investor and analyst relations, and government affairs. He was a director at Lois Paul & Partners prior to joining FitzGerald in 1997.

FitzGerald's client roster includes Texas Instruments and IBM.
