LOS ANGELES-Orange County, Calif., recently celebrated those less-than-perfect ads at its first annual Golden Swirly Awards Gala, held Oct. 9 at Peter Samuels Studio in Santa Ana, Calif.
Sponsored by the Orange County Ad Club, the show handed out gold, silver and bronze awards to “bad ads.” Winners included a print ad for CTX Monitors, an Imodium A-D diarrhea medicine TV spot, “and a print ad which depicted a bikini-clad woman advertising a cologne for hunters to attract deer,” said the show’s co-host Bruce Mayo, who also is principal of Lawrence & Mayo in Newport Beach, Calif.
