BOSTON The Fenway Sports Group has hired Jay Monahan as executive vice president of new business development, the company confirmed.

"I am excited about joining Fenway Sports Group," said Monahan, 35, in a statement. "I have been impressed with the results FSG has delivered for Boston College, the Boston Red Sox, MLB.com and a number of other properties and clients. They have already accomplished a lot, but there is a clear opportunity to be a major player in the sports and entertainment marketplace and I plan on helping them get there."

At the Boston-based agency Monahan plans to expand FSG's sports, marketing and sales opportunities on a national level. Most recently, Monahan was executive director of the Deutsche Bank Championship for IMG Worldwide, a global, sports, leisure and lifestyle management concern.

In related news, FSG will partner with IMG and Deutsche Bank to expand sales and marketing efforts for the Deutsche Bank Championship.

"Jay Monahan will bring us knowledge and innovation that led to the tremendous success of the Deutsche Bank Championship," said Mike Dee, president of FSG, in a statement. "It's a significant testament for us to be able to attract someone of Jay's caliber. We look forward to having him on our team and we look forward to great success with the Deutsche Bank Championship."

FSG is a sports marketing company that creates value for its clients by leveraging existing relationships in professional and collegiate sports. FSG is a subsidiary of New England Sports Ventures, which is owned by the Boston Red Sox.
