Steve Humphrey, the former president of Bronner Slosberg Humphrey, is working in a senior advisory capacity at FCB Direct in New York.
Humphrey, who helped steer Bronner Slosberg to its present ranking as one of the largest independent direct marketing agencies in the country, has been working for FCB Direct since his split from the Boston shop almost a year ago. His position at FCB Direct is as a consultant working three days a week, according to an agency representative.
Sources said FCB Direct would welcome Humphrey in a more permanent full-time position but that he has no desire to relocate to New York. Humphrey could not be reached for comment at press time.
FCB Direct is a division of FCB Worldwide, which is owned by publicly held True North Communications in Chicago.
Humphrey is doing general marketing consulting for the agency. He also is familiar with FCB Direct client AT&T, having worked on various projects for that company while at Bronner Slosberg.
"I wish him well," said Bronner Slosberg chairman and founder Michael Bronner. "If that's what he wants to do [at FCB], I'm happy for him."
Sources close to Bronner Slosberg saw Humphrey's departure a year ago as the culmination of a shift in power to David Kenny, who joined in 1997 from Bain & Co. and now holds the dual title of chief executive officer and president.
Humphrey has never discussed the circumstances surrounding his departure from Bronner Slosberg.
An infusion of cash two weeks ago from San Francisco investment firm Hellman & Friedman, which is believed to have purchased 20 percent of the agency, will help Bronner Slosberg cash out Humphrey's undisclosed minority stake in the shop, one source suggested.
