NEW YORK Cable sports network ESPN, in association with Editorial Televisa, will publish a monthly Spanish-language edition of ESPN The Magazine.

The magazine, called ESPN Deportes after ESPN's 5-year-old Hispanic sports channel, will launch in the second half of the year. A preview edition is planned for May.

The new magazine will be available on newsstands and via subscriptions. It will offer a blend of original content, along with stories from the English-language edition of ESPN The Magazine. Contributions will also come from Editorial Televisa, which publishes some 75 magazines in 20 countries.

The move comes as Time Inc.'s Sports Illustrated prepares to test three controlled circulation editions of SI Latino beginning April 17.

ESPN is based in Bristol, Conn.
