BOSTON -- The Boston Red Sox have accepted a purchase bid of approximately $700 million from a group that includes Ed Eskandarian, CEO and chairman of the Arnold worldwide network.
That group also includes outgoing Florida Marlins owner John Henry; TV producer and former San Diego Padres owner Tom Werner; Maine entrepreneur Les Otten; Ben Cammarata, chairman of TJX Cos.; and The New York Times Co. The group also plans to rebuild and expand 90-year-old Fenway Park on its current site.
League owners are expected to approve the deal next month.
Eskandarian's former boss Dan Snyder is majority owner of the Washington Redskins. Eskandarian sold Arnold to Snyder Communications in 1998; that company was subsequently acquired by French holding company Havas last year.
