NEW YORK EMusic, an MP3 download site that specializes in music produced by independent record labels, has hired MMB to handle its estimated $3 million ad account.

A review for the account concluded this week. Also under consideration were Interpublic Group’s DirectDeutsch and Grey’s G2, both in New York, sources said.

Founded in 1998, eMusic claims to be the first service to sell songs and albums in the MP3 format, offering subscribers about 600,000 tracks from established and emerging artists.
