The Dole Food Co. and Crayola are joining forces with the Produce for Better Health Foundation to target a pressing social problem: childhood obesity.

According to the National Center for Health Statistics, at least 15 percent of U.S. kids are seriously overweight.

With that in mind, the companies are sponsoring the foundation’s “There’s a rainbow on my plate” effort, an extension of PBH’s “5 a day the color way” campaign. The work, which breaks this week, encourages kids to eat fruits and vegetables from the five color groups: red, green, white, blue/purple and yellow/orange.
