LOS ANGELES Ground Zero said it has named Laura Eastman head of brand management, a new position.

Eastman, 35, joined the Marina del Rey, Calif., shop as brand director in 2000. She was part of the pitch team that won the State of California's anti-smoking account. Eastman also heads up the brand team for the Atlantis Resort and is involved in new business.

In addition to having an increased focus on account service and overseeing seven employees in that discipline, Eastman's responsibilities include hiring and training account personnel, said agency president Andrew Gledhill, adding that the shop is not currently looking to expand the department. "That's where her involvement [at the University of Southern California] puts her in quite a good position," said Gledhill, referring to Eastman's experience as an adjunct professor teaching an introduction to advertising course to undergraduates. "She's already worrying about how to educate someone in advertising."

Eastman said her new role underscores the agency's evolution from a shop known for its creative product to an agency that offers a broader range of services.

Eastman began her career at Weber & O'Sullivan Advertising, working on brands such as In-N-Out Burger and Outdoor Products. She also worked on the national Lexus account while at Team One in El Segundo, Calif., served clients like Bank of America and Mitsubishi at Deutsch/LA in Marina del Rey and headed up the interactive business of clients such as Expedia and Mitsubishi as an account director with iDeutsch.
