NEW YORK Drug marketers are set to see another record year in advertising spending, with 2006 outlays projected to rise nearly 9 percent over last year.

At that rate, total spending on all prescription drug brands will come in at around $4.5 billion by the end of the year, according to TNS Media Intelligence. Last year, drug companies spent about $4.1 billion on ads.

The growth in spending was driven by some familiar names. Sepracor’s insomnia drug Lunesta will likely complete the year as the biggest spender.
