Online retailers are enjoying increased productivity in their e-mail endeavors, with conversion rates and order numbers per e-mail significantly higher in the third quarter than in the same period a year ago, according to the new EMail Trend Report released last week from DoubleClick.

The New York-based company, a tracker of e-mails for Internet marketers, said the click-to-purchase conversion rate grew 23.5 percent year-over-year—from 3.4 percent to 4.2 percent in the third quarter. The average number of orders per e-mail also showed significant gains, rising 17 percent to 0.28
