LOS ANGELES–Dole Packaged Foods has awarded its estimated $3 million account to Mendelsohn/Zien Advertising after a review.

Finalists in the two-month competition for the Westlake Village, Calif.-based account were incumbent Colby Effler (formerly Rogge Effler & Partners) in Santa Monica, Calif., and Mendelsohn/Zien and Dailey & Associates, both in Los Angeles.

According to sources, the pitches were geared toward marketing Dole’s canned pineapple, which trails Del Monte’s product in sales. The primary target audience is older consumers.

‘We selected Mendelsohn/Zien based upon their strong strategic vision for the Dole brand,’ said Scott Greenwood, vice president of marketing for Dole Packaged Foods.
