DETROIT-The Troy, Mich., office of D'Arcy Masius Benton & Bowles is conducting a search for an executive to fill a new position at the agency overseeing efforts to attract new, non-automotive business, sources said.
Patrick Sherwood joined the $475 million office in April as managing director. He said at that time that soliciting new clients would be one of his priorities [Adweek, May 26]. Since then, DMB&B has added health maintenance organization Oakwood Healthcare System in Dearborn, Mich., to its client roster and competed for several other major non-auto accounts.
The agency was a finalist for the Florists' Transworld Delivery account and is still in competition for the Ryder TRS business, according to sources.
The DMB&B office's anchor clients are General Motors' Cadillac division and the Pontiac half of the Pontiac-GMC division. Together, the two clients spent more than $300 million on advertising in 1996, according to Competitive Media Reporting.
Sherwood came to DMB&B from Goldberg Moser O'Neill in San Francisco, where he compiled an impressive record, attracting new business from clients as diverse as Rollerblade, Coca-Cola Co., Beringer Wines and Aerial Communications.
The agency would neither confirm nor deny the executive search. "We are really not in a position to talk about this right now," said Patrick McCarthy, DMB&B director of communications and technology systems. "We don't really talk about personnel or recruitment issues.
"There's all kinds of activity going on out there all the time," he said. "Obviously we're going after new business, and as we win things, it's going to put a strain on our resources. So we are always talking to people in all disciplines. There may be activity out there; sometimes it means something, sometimes it doesn't."
