Some people get flowers when they start a new job. Others get champagne. Brian Brooker got diapers.
Bernstein-Rein Advertising sent adult diapers to the new chief creative officer of Barkley Evergreen & Partners in response to a welcome ad that agency placed in Kansas City's alternative newspaper, PitchWeekly. The ad, which was refused by the local daily paper, featured 17 members of the agency's creative department with wet crotches and the headline, "Boy are we excited to see you."
Noting that the ad was "probably not something we would have run," Bernstein-Rein CEO Bob Bernstein said the good-natured jab was appropriate--Brooker started his career at Bernstein in the early 1980s.
Brooker had only good things to say about the gift and the shop that gave him his start. "It's proof that Bernstein-Rein is a pro-active agency," he said.
