DeVito/Verdi Scores Levitz Assignment

NEW YORK DeVito/Verdi said it has been hired for advertising chores by Levitz Furniture, which has about 80 locations, concentrated mainly in the Northeast and on the West Coast.

The Woodbury, N.Y.-based chain was acquired by Prentice Capital Management in late 2005 and is in the process of emerging from bankruptcy.

Levitz had previously handled its ad assignment in-house.

The chain is well known in the New York metropolitan area for its "You'll love it at Levitz" TV and radio commercials, which became ubiquitous at times in past decades.

The agency estimated media spending at $45 million.

This marks the second new account of note for the New York-based independent shop this month following DeVito/Verdi's addition of media chores on Sidney Frank Importing [Adweek Online, Jan. 10]. That business is worth about $10 million.
