A billboard on the way to Hartsfield International Airport in Atlanta asks,”Delta, the pilots are ready. Are you?”
The sign, sponsored by the Delta Air Lines Pilots Association (DALPA), is the latest salvo in the ongoing contract battle between the Atlanta-based airline and its 9,400 aviators.
“The billboard was intended to send a message to Delta management that the pilots are ready for a new contract,” said DALPA representative Karen McGuffey. “And certainly, the public is a secondary audience.”
In 1996, according to McGuffey, Delta pilots agreed to $1 billion in contract concessions–pay cuts, vacation and benefit reductions, increased workloads–to support the struggling carrier.
