Phelps, Sittig Also Honored as LAAAA Creates 2 New Awards
LOS ANGELES--The Los Angeles Advertising Agencies Association has named David Park its Leader of the Year.
The association (formerly the Western States Advertising Agencies Association) will honor Park, president and CEO of DDB, Los Angeles, at its annual awards dinner Feb. 24 at the Regent Beverly Wilshire Hotel.
Park joins an illustrious group of West Coast agency executives who have received the award, including Monty McKinney, Peter Dailey and Lee Clow. Last year's recipient was Donny Deutsch of New York-based Deutsch, which has an office in Marina del Rey, Calif.
For the first time in the history of the award, two other honors will be presented to Southern California agency leaders this year. Joe Phelps, president of The Phelps Group, Santa Monica, Calif., will be named Entrepreneurial Leader of the Year; and Dick Sittig, president of the Kowloon Wholesale Seafood Co., also in Santa Monica, will be named Creative Leader of the Year.
Park began his career in 1966 with McCann-Erickson in Honolulu. He became president of DDB, Los Angeles, in 1988, diversifying the agency
by adding clients such as Universal Studios and Wells Fargo Bank.
Phelps' agency has averaged a 25 percent annual growth rate serving clients such as Petco, Countrywide and Panasonic. Sittig spent nine years with Chiat/Day, leaving in 1997 to form his own agency, which handles Jack in the Box. K
