NEW YORK DDB has named Mark Goldstone, a global account director at Publicis Healthcare Communications Group, the first worldwide president of DDB Healthcare, the network's collection of pharmaceutical marketing shops.

Goldstone, 44, will be based here and report to DDB global CEO Chuck Brymer. He will function as the "practice leader" of pharma shops such as DDB Remedy in Australia, Anderson DDB in Canada, Ciel et Terre in France and Syncronia in Italy, as well as the healthcare arms of DDB and Tribal DDB, a DDB representative said. He starts his new post on Monday.

"With the appointment of Mark Goldstone, we are formalizing the structure of our existing global healthcare offering, whose current success warrants a more scalable practice," said Brymer, in a statement. "The addition of Mark to our healthcare operations will further enhance integration and knowledge-sharing throughout the network."

In his previous post, Goldstone helped manage Publicis Healthcare's global Sanofi-Aventis account. Before that, he was CEO of Interbrand Wood, the healthcare division of Omnicom Group's Interbrand, where Brymer previously was worldwide CEO.

At DDB Healthcare, Goldstone said he would initially focus on "understanding the business that we have and what we want to be." In time, he'll also develop a central strategy for the group and play an integral role in new business development.

Top clients of DDB Healthcare shops include Merck, Schering-Plough, Novartis, Organon and Eli Lilly.
