Ever since a direct-mail campaign for Xerox from then-Lowe Direct beat out his ad for a Caples Award in 1996, Joe Cupani has admired the work of the ex-Lowe execs who founded 7-year-old direct-response shop LLKFB.

“That Xerox work just blew me away,” recalled Cupani, 54, who last week joined the group as chief creative officer from Wunderman, a division of WPP Group’s Y&R Group, where he held the same title. “It was a three-part mailing that was a docudrama about how to get your work out when you’re fighting office politics.
