More people have dogs than play tennis, an estimated 10 times more. That’s about all Penn Racquet Sports needed to know to come up with a line of tennis balls designed just for dogs.
Teaming with Ralston Purina, Penn and its ad agency, Veritas in St. Louis, developed the R.P. Fetchem’s brand of balls for dogs to chase.
“There is a real consumer need for this product,” said Laura Kurzu, partner and account manager at Veritas. Tennis balls are among the most popular dog toys, she said, but have only occasionally been marketed as such.
