Coty Rethinks Stetson Creative Review

NEW YORK Coty Cosmetics is considering its options following last week's news that Bouchez Kent, a co-finalist in Coty's Stetson review, is closing, sources said.

The review for creative duties on the $10 million account had been narrowed to the New York independent agency and Select Communications, a Coty roster shop, according to sources.

Select Communications was an 11th hour contender hand-picked by Eric Thoreux, president of Coty Beauty Americas, following final presentations in March. Select, with offices in New York, Paris and London, launched Jennifer Lopez's fragrances, Glow and Still, and handles advertising for Coty brand Cool Water.

Select representative Richard Hinzel said the agency had not yet been contacted by the client and declined further comment.

The New York-based client will likely award the work to Select, sources said. Coty, however, could return to the pool of agencies that competed in an earlier round and reinstate the runner-up, one source said. Among the contenders were 10-year incumbent Della Femina Rothschild Jeary & Partners and Gotham, both in New York, and Carmichael Lynch in Minneapolis.

Agencies either could not be reached or declined comment. Consultancy Roth Associates in New York, which is conducting the review, was not available. The client did not return phone calls.
