The voice of Oil of Olay’s skin-care products has two accents–one native and one acquired.
The native sound comes from England, the home of Anna Bellegarde (shown here). The U.S. dialect was taught to Bellegarde by Sam Chwat, self-proclaimed “speech therapist to the stars.”
Chwat worked with Bellegarde last spring and again this month to master the copy for the U.S. version of her TV spots for Oil of Olay. One broke last year and the other, by Saatchi & Saatchi, New York, will break this spring.
Chwat’s mission was to transform Bellegarde’s upscale British accent into standard American English.
