If top executives of big corporations were the only people entitled to vote, General Electric’s Jack Welch would be our next president—assuming he felt like taking the job. A poll by New York-based Doremus Advertising found Welch atop executives’ list of “viable choices” for chief executive of the country, with 49 percent according him that status. Southwest Airlines’ Herb Kelleher and IBM’s Lou Gerstner were seen as prime presidential timber by one-quarter of those polled.
