To convey the idea that Houston Rockets forward Tracy McGrady is “unstoppable” in his T-MAC 4 shoes from Adidas, TBWA\Chiat\Day breaks a spot today that shows the athlete charging toward a basket as a tiny army tries to stop him with helicopters and tanks. The effects were done by Digital Domain. Director Brian Beletic of Smuggler shot McGrady on a blue screen, and his minuscule opposition was added later. “It’s kind of like you do a commercial twice—once with the athlete and again for all the animation,” says Chuck McBride, ecd at TBWA\C\D in San Francisco, which created the spot as part of the TBWA\180 alliance that handles the global $80-100 million Adidas account.
