LOS ANGELES Columbia Pictures said it has optioned exclusive motion picture rights to develop and produce a feature film based on Mattel’s Hot Wheels brand.

McG, who directed Charlie’s Angels, will call the shots on the live-action feature film. John Baldecchi, who produced The Mexican, and Jason Hoffs will produce it.

McG said the film would have “all the warmth and humanity of your favorite James Dean movie with the state-of-the-art visual effects and the hottest collection of automobiles ever brought to the screen.”
