BOSTON College Parent, a bimonthly magazine targeting parents of new and soon-to-be college students, will premiere in October.
The Liberty Corner, N.J.-based publication will feature articles on college planning, selection, financial aid and campus life.
Advertisers include companies offering tuition financing, computers, software, telecom and travel services, with Citibank and The Wall Street Journal initially on board, according to Stuart Slater, chief operating officer of the publishing venture.
"There are certain categories of product parents have to purchase," Slater said about the advertising. "It's a very lucrative opportunity for these advertisers."
Jim Johnson is publisher of the title, with executive editor Steve Peri and managing editor Ellen Neufeld in charge of editorial. The editors have relied on freelancers to write content for the first issue and hope to build a staff in the months ahead, Slater said.
The magazine's October edition will be sent to 100,000 households with college-bound students. A national controlled circulation of 250,000 is planned for future issues beginning in January 2004.
