DETROIT–Kmart Corp. ended a year-long review by awarding Don Coleman Advertising in Southfield, Mich., its estimated $5 million African American account. Coleman and The Chisholm-Mingo Group, N.Y., made second presentations to the Troy, Mich.-based discount retailer several weeks ago after another finalist, Carol H. Williams Advertising, Oakland, Calif., was eliminated from the competition.

Kmart’s previous African-American agency, Burrell Communications in Chicago, had resigned the business in April 1996 to take on a similar assignment from Sears, Roebuck & Co.
