HomeStore.com pokes fun at Bill and Hillary Clinton in a new radio ad from TBWA/Chiat/Day.
The Thousand Oaks, Calif., company's spot, whose Realtor.com Web site listed the Clintons' new $1.7 million home, offers ideas to denizens of Chappaqua, N.Y., to welcome the Clintons.
The ad suggests buying sunglasses and black suits, as "Secret Service guys go through that stuff in a big, big way." Also: book tee times, for "who do you think is going to get the opening" when vying with the Clintons for a slot?
Following a print ad in The Washington Post and The New York Times, the radio ad was a bit of a salvage job, said Rich Siegel, associate creative director at TBWA/C/D, Playa del Rey, Calif. Once the Clintons were known to be househunting, the shop planned outdoor ads.
"We were even going to have a mobile billboard circling The White House," Siegel said.
HomeStore.com spent $500,000 on the ads, said marketing director Jeff Charney. The shop won the account, at about $30-40 million, this summer. National ads are planned for January.
