NEW YORK MDC Partners' Cliff Freeman and Partners has hired Jeff McClelland as its CEO, effective immediately, the agency confirmed.

McClelland, 43, steps into a new role at the New York-based shop: founder Cliff Freeman is chairman and chief creative officer.

"I've been looking for a CEO for 16 years," said Freeman, in a statement. "We've tried the managing director role, EVP and outside senior business consultants to help lead the agency. Sixteen years and many prospects later, I finally found the perfect fit. Jeff has a unique blend of agency management, new business and strategic experience, coupled with a strong belief and background rooted in unique integrated thinking."

Of his new job, McClelland said the agency possesses, "[the] kind of thinking I want to be part of, and I couldn't be joining at a more perfect time."

McClelland's most recent agency job was as managing director of Dentsu-owned Oasis in New York. Before that, he was a senior partner and managing director at Ogilvy & Mather's Brand Integration Group until September 2001. During that tenure, he managed that shop's Northwest Airlines account.

He was also a partner and group account director at Havas' Euro RSCG in New York, running Red Lobster before he joined Ogilvy. McClelland was a team leader at then-independent Kirshenbaum Bond + Partners in the early 1990s.

Cliff Freeman's clients include Cadbury Schweppes' Snapple and Canada Dry, DSW, Shoney's and Ultimate Electronics.
