Officials with Checkers Drive-In Restaurants Inc. in Clearwater, Fla., have placed the creative portion of the chain's $8 million advertising account in play.
Checker's media account, which is handled by Western International Media, is not in review.
The chain has been using work from Mendelsohn/Zien Advertising in Los Angeles, which also handles Carl's Jr. Restaurants, a West Coast-based fast-food concern. Acquisitions by Carl's that share markets with Checkers created the need for a review.
Agencies invited by Checkers had until last Friday to submit their initial responses. Those contenders will be cut to 10, and from there two or three finalists will be named. A decision is expected by Aug. 1.
