Best of Show and a gold medal went to the first-ever TV spot for Rollerblade Inc. The 30-second spot featured an in-line skater passing an Amish buggy on a lonely country road. The duo of art director Jeff Terwilliger and copywriter Kerry Casey created the spot. The pair won Best of Show last year for a Rollerblade print campaign.
CL won golds for Zebco and Harley-Davidson work. In addition, the agency took home four silver and 12 bronze medals for clients including American Standard, Normark and Mack Truck.
Close behind CL was Hunt Murray, which finished with 11 medals. The agency received two gold medals – one for a wacky Mystic Lake Casino TV spot featuring an orangutan and another for a poster for General Aviation Services. The agency also won six silver and three bronze medals.
Up and coming HM art director Doug Adkins carried home the greatest number of awards won by an individual – two gold, five silver and three bronze awards.
Martin/Williams won 10 medals, including one gold for a 15-second spot for Play It Again Sports. Colle & McVoy won a gold for a public service TV spot for the Kaiser Roll Foundation. Clarity Coverdale Rueff won five medals, including two bronze for print ads for former client St. Paul Pioneer Press.
A number of agencies, including CME-KHBB and Fallon McElligott do not participate in The Show, co-sponsored by the Art Directors and Copywriters Club of Minnesota and the Advertising Federation of Minnesota.
