LOS ANGELES--Carat USA has named veteran automotive media executive Tom Somerset senior vice president, group director for its $450-million Hyundai/Kia media planning account, sources said.

Somerset, 53, moves over from Ground Zero, Marina del Rey, Calif., which he joined as executive media director in July 2001. One of the most well-known car marketing executives in Southern California, Somerset has spent the bulk of his 25 years in the business working on automotive media accounts in New York and L.A., including Ford at J. Walter Thompson, Honda at Rubin Postaer & Associates, Mazda at Foote, Cone & Belding and Acura at Ketchum Advertising.

Somerset will report to John Barnes, evp/managing director of Carat USA - Los Angeles, which won the two Hyundai nameplates' business after a review earlier this year.
