A delegation of Russian graphic designers and printers spent the better part of May touring Wisconsin print shops and ad agencies. The expedition included a stop at Directions Inc., a graphic design and ad agency in Neenah, where the 11 Russians seemed most fascinated by the monetary aspects of the business.
“They were interested in how to pay people, how to set billing rates, what to charge for projects,” said Julie Kolka, an agency representative. In other words, the basics of the capitalist way to which Russia is having so much trouble adapting.
The visit was set up through the Productivity Enhancement Program of the Center for Citizen Initiatives, which is trying to help Russians adapt to a free-market economy.
Not everything made sense to the visitors.
