CHICAGO–Campbell Mithun is merging with fellow Interpublic Group shop Phillips-Ramsey in San Diego to create a full-service West Coast operation.

Headed by Gary Meads, former Phillips-Ramsey general manager, the San Diego office of Campbell Mithun claims $130 million in billings from clients such as Verizon Wireless, WD-40 and Bumble Bee Seafoods.

Minneapolis-based Campbell Mithun has an office in Irvine, Calif., to handle the regional Verizon Wireless account, but agency CEO Les Mouser said the merger was needed to form a “beachhead” in Southern California to attract new business.
