Peter A. Mayer Advertising's latest promotion for the Louisiana Office of Tourism rides on wheels, guzzles gas and has a 10-city itinerary.
The New Orleans agency developed a version of a rolling billboard for the client to mark the state's tricentennial next year.
The colorful "Louisiana Birthday Bus" arrived at the Chicago Music Festival last week loaded with a bright red, human-sized crawfish, a Cajun chef, musicians and dancers.
"We thought it was a good way to offer a virtual slice of Louisiana with food, music and history at each stop," Mayer creative director Dee Smith said.
The bus will visit 10 cities--including Atlanta, Detroit, New York, Washington, D.C., Memphis, Tenn., and Birmingham, Ala.--on its more than 3,500-mile trip. It stopped at the House of Blues in Chicago last week, where the troupe performed, cooked and kicked up their heels.
The vehicle also presents historical information about the state's colonization by the French beginning in 1699.
