Legendary Chicago Bears linebacker Dick Butkus was back on his old stomping grounds over the holidays, pacing the yard markers of Soldier Field on behalf of the new XFL football league.

The NBC Agency, the advertising and promotional agency formed last year for all NBC-owned affiliates, was shooting TV spots inside the stadium to promote the league under its theme, “It’s real football.”

Butkus, who is in the National Football League’s Hall of Fame and is now an actor, was briefly the coach of Chicago’s XFL entry, the Enforcers, before taking a leaguewide job to promote the fledgling enterprise.

The spots feature Butkus in frigid conditions inside the snow-covered stadium to reflect the hard-core nature of the game.
