NEW YORK Burt’s Bees, the quirky health and beauty brand, is launching its first ad campaign, which coincides with an expansion of distribution beyond book shops and natural food outlets and into drugstore chains and other mass merchants.

Print, radio and a new Web site via BrandBuzz, New York, continue the brand’s playful, hippie-ish vibe. One ad shows the client’s products against a green backdrop as two cartoon bees converse: “You know, when you put chemicals on your body, they get absorbed into your skin,” says one.
