Burson-Marsteller Names New CEO

BOSTON Burson-Marsteller, part of WPP Group's Young & Rubicam Brands, has named Thomas Nides worldwide president and CEO, effective Nov. 8, the agency said.

Nides succeeds Christopher Komisarjevsky, who has been with the public-relations company for a decade and plans to retire at the close of 2004. For the last six years, Komisarjevsky has been worldwide president and CEO. Nides and Komisarjevsky will work together for a period of time to ensure a smooth transition of leadership. Burson operates 93 wholly owned and affiliate offices in 55 countries.

"I've spent much of my career working at professional services firms intensely committed to client service. I look forward to bringing that experience to Burson-Marsteller and working with talented people there on innovative ways to further enhance service to our clients," said Nides in a statement.

Nides, 43, joins from Credit Suisse First Boston, where he was global chief administrative officer at the New York-based investment bank. At Credit Suisse he managed 2,000 employees and oversaw corporate communications, government relations, advertising, marketing, human resources, philanthropy and other administrative functions. Before Credit Suisse, Nides was a senior vice president and member of the operating committee at Fannie Mae.
